Several Prominent Pastors Hold Special Prayers For Nigeria

Two of my posts last week were about the annual convention of the Living Faith Church Inc's annual convention, shiloh 2015, here and here, which ended yesterday. Another annual convention, the Holy Ghost Congress of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, which also ended yesterday (the publicity poster is shown above) was basically also about praying for Nigeria, as well as declaring miracle on the lives of all those in attendance, and the inevitable offertory.
The general overseer of the RCCG, Enoch Adeboye, gathered together some of his prosperity preaching brethren who took turns in highlighting the various problems facing the Nigerian society, and recommending prayers as the only solution. Also present on reserved seats at the front row were several of the politicians who are a major cause of Nigeria’s current impasse, and, of course, the impoverished, helpless and hopeless citizens who are hoping for some miracle. Some of the political leaders in attendance were Prof Yemi Osinbajo, Nigeria’s vice president, Akinwunmi Ambode, the governor of Lagos state, a handful of other state governors, several political appointees, and senior civil servants.
The gathering was basically a microcosm of the problems Nigeria is facing: clueless, corrupt, incompetent, mendacious, and wicked political leaders, a greedy and conniving clergy, and a jaded and oppressed populace. Mr Adeboye and his fellow charlatans are trying to convince all those present that the challenges facing Nigeria could be banished by prayers, just like Mr David Oyedepo did at shiloh 2015. This was the 18th holy ghost congress, and Oyedepo's shiloh just concluded it's 15th edition, and these annual conventions gather millions of persons who have continued to pray for Nigeria, but the country only seems to be falling deeper into the abyss of corruption and poor leadership. It should have been obvious to those who have continued to attend these conventions for nearly two decades that their prayers are actually making things worse, but they also have personal reasons for going to these conventions, and that is to seek for a miracle to the daily challenges of being a Nigerian.
Mr Adeboye's wife, Folu, affectionately called "Mummy G.O", while praying, asked the congregation to "appreciate God for his love and mercy over Nigeria, and that God should release flood of righteousness and flush out activities of terrorists, unrest and other challenges confronting the giant of Africa; and that holiness, obedience to God, and constituted authorities will reign among Nigerians for divine blessing and peace in the nation." If Nigeria, in its present state is a product of the "love and mercy" of God, then I shudder to think about what it would be like without God's love and mercy. She also prayed for divine wisdom, knowledge for leaders praying that God will give them power to be faithful, fear God, lead aright, committed to their works having the love of the masses at the back of their minds. Well, she needn't have bothered; these qualities are the exact opposite of what the typical Nigerian leader possesses, prayers will never change that. And what exactly does "the fear of God" mean?
Nigeria used to be known for as the giant of Africa, in the days when she had so much potential, but this potential giant was dealt several fatal blows in the form of very poor and unimaginative political leadership, and a docile citizenry, which even a giant could not survive. Today, Nigeria is nearly a failed state, and all that some religious nuts can come up with as a solution to all the challenges facing Nigeria is prayers.
